Google rumoured to replace its Nexus devices with Android Silver

Google rumoured to replace its Nexus devices with Android Silver
Instead of hiring third-party manufacturers like LG and Asus to make Nexus-branded devices, Android Silver would see Google put stock Android on high-end models like the Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One (M8). This is so it can sell them in high street shops, and reach more casual punters who would otherwise be tempted by an iPhone.
The good news is that these devices would still run the latest version of Android, be the first in line for updates, and have minimal bloatware.
The bad? It's unlikely Google would be able to convince big-name partners to lower the price of their flagship devices. So it could spell an end to the affordable Nexus line-up many of us know and love.
It's just a rumour at the moment, so nothing is definite. But Android Police claims to have seen slides related to the programme.
Android Silver is said to have a feature similar to "Find my iPhone". It's also thought to have a feature like the Amazon's Mayday seen on the Kindle Fire HDX, which gives customers free video calls to a customer service rep to sort out any issues with the device.
Previous devices – like the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One – have launched in Google Play Editions, running stock Android, but they never made it to the UK.
