LG builds its own Virtual Reality headset for G3 buyers

LG builds its own Virtual Reality headset for G3 buyers
Google and LG have teamed up to offer a free virtual reality accessory to users who now purchase the LG G3. The South Korean company will soon start promotion for their virtual-reality headset, VR for G3, which is based on Google’s Cardboard device that uses the G3’s screen to allow users to download VR games and apps from the Google Play store.
According to a report by Cnet, the new headset is a way for LG to answer its rival Samsung by launching a similar no-cost virtual-reality product. The report also pointed out how the LG headset could be an early sign on how competition and co-operation will shape up in the world of mobile virtual reality.
The headset has a side-mounted neodymium ring magnet which will work in conjunction with the phablet’s gyroscope sensor when the handset is inside the headset. This will let users select apps and settings on the phablet remotely, meaning there’s no need to touch the screen in order to find apps and other settings.
The Quad HD display will allow users to see extremely sharp and clear VR images through the device along with the outstanding audio quality that the smartphone provides. LG will be launching the VR for G3 promotion in “select markets” starting this month, and consumers that get their hands on one of the headsets will also be able to download a free VR game, “Robobliteration” via a QR code included in the headset’s packaging.
There have been many other players in the industry that have invested in offering virtual reality experiences to users. Facebook had announced last year that it was buying the creator of 3D virtual reality headset called Oculus VR. According to Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook was said to “focus on helping Oculus build out their product and develop partnerships to support more games.”
Also, Samsung had unveiled their Gear VR virtual reality headset powered by the Galaxy Note 4 last year during IFA. Oculus, the maker of Oculus Rift, which had been acquired by Facebook had partnered with Samsung and other VR developers to come out with the Gear VR, which is completely untethered virtual reality headset.
