In
yet another major push into the Indian technology sector, Internet
giant Google has announced that its startup mentorship programme
Launchpad will be coming to India. The Times of India reports that the
company has identified ten startups to be part of Google Launchpad,
which will be held as a 5-day programme between November 3 and 7 in
Bengaluru.
“Launchpad
is an exhaustive mentorship programme to help startups build at scale.
By next year we want to do this every quarter, and a year from then, we
hope to do it every month,” Sunil Rao, country head of the startup
programme in Google India, is quoted as saying.
In
all, around 25 startups will reporte.dly be part of the programme.
CoSight, which helps make sales executives more efficient, iReff
Technologies, which allows you to find the best prepaid mobile recharge
plan for your needs, and Smart Pocket, which manages all your loyalty
cards on the phone, are part of the initial bunch of startups.
Bringing
the programme to India is part of Google’s push in markets that are
ripe for startups. Launchpad began in Israel and over a dozen such
programes have been held around the world, including in Brazil. Amit
Shevat, Google’s startup outreach programme manager, is expected to be
present at the event, along with Googlers from Mountain View and Israel.
In
recent months, we have seen Google announce big India-specific plans
such as Android One, and Indian accent support for Google Now. Launchpad
is its first real effort in understanding the Indian startup industry
