Cyanogen,
the maker of Cyanogen Mod ROM, has announced that it will release the
Cyanogen 12 OS running on the Android 5.0 Lollipop in the coming weeks.
Along with the latest ROM update, it will also add on Boxer as the
default email app.
The
Cyanogen 12 ROM will be seen on the Yu Yureka phone for Indian users
and OnePlus users outside the country, since Cyanogen is in an exclusive
partnership with Micromax for its Yu brand. According to this teaser,
the Yu Yureka is all set to get the Android 5.0 Lollipop update on March
26. According to Cyanogen’s Google+ post for Yu Yureka, “The Cyanogen
OS 12 ‘L’ OTA will be released in the next few weeks. We are currently
addressing QA/QE results and beginning soak testing with users in
India.”
The
Boxer email app will come pre-installed and will be the default mail
application on Cyanogen 12 OS. Of course, you can still use Gmail as
your email service. The other interesting feature of Boxer is that it
allows you to connect to popular cloud services such as Dropbox,
Evernote, Box, Google Drive and others.
Keeping
in line with Cyanogen’s ability to let you tweak your phone, the Boxer
email app lets you decide the left and right swipe actions, notification
sounds, different colours for accounts, LED notification modification
and so on.
You
can also create a task and set a due date and priority level from the
inbox itself. This app will also be available with future phones
shipping with Cyanogen 12 OS.
We
will find out on March 26, what Cyanogen’s latest ROM is about. As for
the OnePlus One users in India who will not get CM12 should not worry
too much, as OnePlus’s very own custom ROM, OxygenOS is set to be
released soon.
