Amazon
may soon introduce a new service dubbed ‘Amazon Unlocked’ which will
offer paid apps for free. Along with free apps, the service will also
make in-app purchases free.
TechCrunch describes the service as “Amazon Prime, but for apps”.
The
report added that developers can leave Unlocked and when they do, users
will have to begin paying for in-app purchases again. This way, Amazon
Unlocked gives app developers an opportunity to make money off of their
apps even after giving it away for free.
As
of now, developers have told TechCrunch that the project is still in
development phase and all information is under NDA and hence, they
cannot disclose anything regarding the app store. The report also points
out that this move will put pressure on competitors that struggle to
match the prices that Amazon offers.
This
service will be promoted via Amazon’s own flagship app along with
social networks too. This new service from Amazon is said to attract
millions of mobile users to its app store and will also increase the
usage of Amazon app, since the Unlocked service will be accessed only
from the Amazon app.
