Apple buys Israel-based camera technology company LinX

Apple buys Israel-based camera technology company LinX
Apple is known for good cameras inside its iPhones but the sensors are supplied by Sony. It was about time that Apple would have its own in-house camera hardware as well. To make that a reality, Apple has acquired an Israel-based camera technology company called LinX Computational Imaging Limited.
According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, the Israeli company specialises in small camera modules which can be implemented in smartphone cameras. On the company website, you can see multi-lens modules which can be used in 2D as well as 3D capture.
LinX says that its cameras are also capable of a variety of special effects such as the refocussing an image after the fact, measurement of the true dimensions of objects, 3D object modelling and real-time background replacement in video calls.
From the pictures, the camera tech looks quite similar to the du0-camera seen on the HTC One M8/M9 as well as the Huawei Honor 6 Plus.
It wouldn’t be surprising to see the next iPhone with a dual-lens camera just like the HTC and Huawei variants. Knowing Apple, it might just introduce a whole new term for this existing technology.
