Apple orders 5-6 million watches in the first quarter: Report
Apple is all set to launch its highly anticipated Watch in April, but a new Wall Street Journal report states that it will come without several health features that Apple had initially planned for the smartwatch.
Some of the earlier reports were hinting at an array of sensors for measuring blood pressure, heart activity and stress levels, however, looks like we may not see these features in the first iteration of the watch.
The report adds that features like tracking stress levels and blood pressure were extremely complex to implement. On the other hand, some sensors couldn’t be implemented because the sensors didn’t meet Apple’s standards.
Some sensors didn’t give accurate readings, adds the report. In fact, the report states that after cutting down some important health features, the Apple team was left wondering about the purpose of the watch to attract customers.
However, the company has decided to launch the device in April with whatever heath features it supports and some attractive features like heartbeat-based messaging and other communication features, according to the report.
“Apple is gearing up for a strong start. People familiar with the matter said the company is asking suppliers in Asia to make five million to six million Apple Watches in the first quarter. One of those people said half of the first-quarter output would be for the entry-level Apple Watch Sports and one-third for the mid-tier model, which has stainless-steel casing and a watch face covered by sapphire crystal,” as per the WSJ report.
The report also states that the gold watches could sell for $4,000 or more. The Apple Watch sports a squarish design instead of a circular one popularised by Motorola’s Moto 360. The Watch is crafted from custom alloys of polished or space black stainless steel (Apple Watch), space gray or silver anodized aluminum (Apple Watch Sport) and 18-karat rose or yellow gold (Apple Watch Edition). Going by the demo during its launch keynote, the Watch still can do a lot of stuff. Here’s everything you need to know about the Apple Watch.
