Social
networking site Pinterest has announced a partnership with Apple today
in which it has launched a new feature known as ‘App Pins’. With this
feature, a user can pin apps to Pinterest boards which allow other users
to download directly from inside Pinterest.
This
feature is specially designed for users to easily discover smartphone
apps. In a conversation with New York Times, Evan Sharp, a founder of
Pinterest said that, “We can be a really powerful service for app
discovery, which is a problem that still really hasn’t been solved.” He
also added that, “Our specialty is really connecting people to the
things they want to do”.
This
works out quite well as there are more than 1.4 million mobile
applications in Apple’s App Store and almost impossible to have a look
at them all as the choices are endless. This way, if a user is looking
at a certain topic, he/she can stumble upon various apps pertaining to
their topic.
This
way, if a a user searches for health on Pinterest and comes across a
fitness app that they may want to download, with App Pins they can
download the app directly to their phone without ever having to leave
Pinterest. Almost 75 percent of activity on Pinterest, which has an
estimated 70 million monthly users, comes from mobile devices as well.
This feature is currently available for iOS users and there is no news if the service will be available for Google’s Play Store.
