Gionee
plans to expand its Elife portfolio with the all new Elife E7. The
company has started sending out invites for the event that will be held
at the Mobile World Congress on March 2.
There is no word on the specifications of the device, but the invite reads, “witness the Big Moment.”
This could likely mean, the company plans on a much larger display and may even take a step ahead in terms of sleekness.
Head
of Global Marketing, Oliver Sha, has said, “The race to make the
slimmest smartphone was getting out of hand. Going so slim is actually
not benefiting user experience without the performance to back it up.”
Probably, hinting at the watered down S5.1. Maybe this time, we can
expect a powerful smartohone packaged in an uber-thin form factor.
Last
year, Gionee had said that the Elife S5.1 was recognised by Guinness
Book of World Records as the slimmest smartphone in the world. However,
Oppo’s R5, replaced the S5.1 as the slimmest smartphone in the world.
Though
the S5.1 is slimmer than its successor Elife S5.5, it comes with rather
toned-down specs. The Elife S5.1 sports a 4.8-inch 720p AMOLED display,
which is a step down from the 5-inch Full HD display seen on the S5.5.
It comes powered by 1.7GHz octa-core processor coupled with 1GB of RAM.
The
S5.1 runs Android 4.4 along with a layer of the company’s Amigo 2.0 UI.
On the camera front, there’s an 8-megapixel rear snapper and a
5-megapixel front-facing camera. The device also gets 16GB onboard
storage. All of this will be fuelled by a 2,050mAh battery.
